To early to tell how much of an impact it's having on my business but I can see the benefits and hopefully more and more people will find out about my business through social media.

Cian.
Hi Paul,

Social Media benefits our business allowing us to network online, reaching more people - Check out the Socialnomics channel on YouTube for some great statistics on social media and business: http://www.youtube.com/user/Socialnomics09

We also benefit from the increase in use of social media because we offer courses to owner/managers in how to use sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Wordpress, forums, etc. for promoting SME business in Ireland.

The social media aspect for me is all about sharing expertise and gaining interest in the business. It's a great source for networking, and I'm finding that as the days progress, interaction is increasing across the board.

The downside is your friends may feel they are being loyal by joining the group etc, but if they take no participation, then its pointless for them and only means additional people statistics for you.

@Niamh - I do the same for clients. Do you notice however that if you check up on them, they are not as commited to keeping the submissions going. Its actually time consuming to write, submit etc and respond to all sites.

@CG online marketing - yes, however, we have come up with some good methods of saving time that our client's find very useful.

In the end, however, the success of social media comes down to how committed and involved you are in it. We have two clients in particular who were a bit technophobic to begin with, but once they overcame their apprehensions, they flourished online and they are benefitting from increased business as a direct result of their commitment.

yes!! Our facebook page has converted fans into actual sales which is great!! We also try to help other businesses use their facebook pages into sales by teaming up and offering discounts to both our fans and theirs
